Anyone who has had a baby will know this feeling well. Your body has done the most incredible thing, but it doesn't quite feel like your own yet, and getting dressed in the morning can feel like a bit of a puzzle.
I won't lie, it took me a while to feel like myself again after the twins. Nothing sat the way it used to, and I lived in the same few comfies because they were the only things I felt comfortable in. And do you know what, there is nothing wrong with that. Your body has been through so much, so give it time and don't rush a single bit of it.
The pieces that got me through were the ones that felt comfortable but still made me feel a little bit put together. That is the sweet spot for me, comfy enough for the reality of a newborn, but nice enough that you still feel like yourself. For me that meant soft fabrics with a bit of give, nothing digging in or fussy, but in colours and shapes that I actually liked catching a glimpse of in the mirror.
When you are running on very little sleep and your day is a blur of feeds and changes, having even one outfit that makes you feel good can genuinely lift the whole day. It sounds like such a small thing, and maybe it is, but it made a big difference to me. On the mornings I made that little bit of effort, even just leggings and a nice half-zip instead of yesterday's pyjamas, I felt that bit more like me again.
My little uniform
A good pair of leggings and an oversized half-zip became my little uniform, and I lived in them. I basically live in 4THARQ! They are the the kind of bits you can wash a hundred times and throw on without a second thought.
my favourite!

To all the mammies
Here is the one thing I would say to any mammy in the thick of it.
"Be kind to yourself and dress for the body you have right now, not the one you used to have."
Feeling like yourself again doesn't happen overnight. It might take a little longer than you hope, but trust me, you will get there. It creeps back in little moments, and one morning you will catch yourself in the mirror and think, there I am.
As always, thanks for being here.
