When we found out we were expecting twins, I'm pretty sure I was glued to the sofa for a good half-hour, just trying to process it all! Two cots, two wardrobes, double everything! But once the initial shock wore off, I couldn't wait to start planning their nursery. Forget the sleepless nights (for a moment!), this was going to be fun.
I envisioned a space that felt both calm and cozy, but also super practical. You know, somewhere I wouldn't mind spending hours feeding, rocking, and just hanging out. Living in the Irish countryside meant I had to be smart about where I shopped, balancing local finds with online orders to avoid those crazy delivery fees.
So, here’s how the whole thing came together. Prepare for cuteness!
Choosing the Colour Palette
Right off the bat, I knew I wanted to steer clear of anything too loud or garish. A baby's room can be gorgeous without looking like a toy store exploded, right? I landed on a soft pink to bring in some warmth, paired with a muted green to keep things balanced.
The pink gives a gentle, cozy vibe without being overly sweet, while the green adds a fresh, natural touch that works perfectly for either boys or girls. Together, they create this lovely, serene space, and trust me, in those early newborn days, you'll grab any calm you can get!
The Cots and Changing Station
With twins on the way, space and flexibility were my top priorities. That's when I stumbled upon the Gaia Baby Serena All-In-One Cots, and I just fell in love. The way they're designed to grow with the babies is genius! Of course, they look beautiful, but more importantly, they feel incredibly solid and well-made, which is exactly what you want when you're hoping they'll last through toddlerhood (and beyond!).
For storage, the Gaia Baby Hera Dresser has been an absolute lifesaver. It's roomy enough to hold all those twin essentials, and the drawers are so smooth, a must when you're trying to sneak something out without waking a sleeping cherub! Topped it with the Hera Changing Station, and it fits like a glove. No wasted space, which is always a win.
We also squeezed in an IKEA Malm set of drawers. Okay, it's not the most glamorous piece in the room, but it's a total workhorse for spare bedding, blankets, and all those bigger-sized clothes they'll inevitably grow into in the blink of an eye.
Adding Personality with Décor
More than just a practical space, I wanted the nursery to feel personal and filled with love. It's the little touches that make me smile every time I walk in.
-
Wall Prints & Frames: I found the sweetest prints at The Range that matched the color scheme perfectly. I went for soft, simple designs that weren't too overwhelming.
-
Storage Baskets: Major score at The Range and ALDI! These have been amazing for keeping nappies, muslins, and toys within arm's reach. Plus, they make tidying up a breeze.
-
Animal Wall Decals: Got these on Amazon, and they were so easy to put up. I can't wait for the twins to start pointing out all the animals when they're a bit bigger.
-
Rug: The rustic jute rug from Kukoon adds such a cozy texture and warmth to the floor. I love that it’s natural and neutral, so it doesn’t steal the show.
My Storage Tips for Two
If you're setting up a nursery for twins, listen up: you can never have too many baskets or drawer dividers. Seriously.
With two babies, you're doubling the nappies, vests, socks, the whole shebang. Without a system, you'll spend half your life rummaging around. I've got a drawer for each clothing size (newborn, 0–3 months, etc.) and a basket for every category: blankets, toys, feeding supplies. Trust me; it's a game-changer.
It makes life so much easier, especially during those blurry-eyed night feeds when you really don't want to be hunting for a clean babygrow in the dark.
The Final Touches
It’s the finishing touches that really make the room feel warm and inviting. A basket overflowing with board books sits in the corner, ready for those precious bedtime stories. Two super-soft blankets are casually draped over the cots. And a gentle nightlight casts the perfect glow for those middle-of-the-night feeds.
Standing in the doorway now, I can already picture them lying in their cots, gazing up at the animal decals on the wall, and just giggling away together. Creating this space has been a true labour of love, and I absolutely can't wait for all the memories we'll make in here.
If you’re in the midst of planning your own nursery – especially for twins – my best piece of advice would be to start with the basics, prioritize storage from the get-go, and then layer in personality with all those special little details. And most importantly, create a space that you absolutely love being in. Because, believe me, you’ll be spending a lot of time there!
